Arabic domain name for Oman ( .OM ),available from Q1 of 2012

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced that the Arabic domain name for Oman will become available from the first quarter of the next year. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved the introduction of non-Latin domain names in May 2010 .The first countries to adopt the Arabic domain names were Egypt,Saudi Arabia and UAE .
“Hopefully it will enhance local businesses and .om should give some association with the brand of the country as well as its identity," said Mohammed al Kindi, a senior manager with TRA.
"Our project is about to be launched very soon. We’re working with vendors who’re installing the equipment and securing the connectivity,” he added .
Mohammed al Kindi also said that the introduction of the arabic domain name for Oman will most probably boost the growth of the internet in their region.About Eranet
